Context
- A newly appointed CTO required an independent trusted assessment of whether an externally facing line of business platform, that had recently launched after multi-year programme delays, had sound system, software, and security architectures, capable of supporting business growth, and play a wider IT role supporting other critical business processes managed by the Technology team.
Objective
- Define the current state of the Line of Business system and document its solution architecture, data flows, processes, and operating model including development pipeline and tooling.
- Identify and assess issues, risks and opportunities within the Line of Business system
- Produce actionable recommendations to rectify constraints and remediate risks, so the Line of Business system can play a role in the strategic growth of the business.
Action
- Interviews with subject matter experts augmented by review of knowledge artefacts to confirm key user journeys, business processes and workflow; data processing, technical architecture and system design, system integrations, security architecture, software architecture, delivery pipeline, cloud infrastructure, operating model.
- Consultant led assessment of scalability, security, quality, flexibility considerations enabling us to identify issues, risks and opportunities.
- Consultant led recommendations for Line of Business system developments to establish a robust foundation for ongoing development to meet business needs.
- Executive level report to record findings and recommendations.
- Weekly engagement governance calls with sponsor and senior stakeholders to ensure our consultancy met sponsor expectations.
Outcome
- Findings & recommendations report presented and accepted by the Managing Director and the Board.
- Approval for the change programme and budget recommended by the report enabling the CTO to execute strategic changes and improvements.
